Which is the best heavy duty stairlift for your stairs? Heavy duty stairlifts are designed for the heavier and larger user. So if you exceed the weight limit of a standard stairlift (usually around 19 stone), you may need a heavy duty stairlift.

There’s a variety of heavy duty stairlifts on the market which meet different needs.

Which Is The Best Heavy Duty Stairlift – Straight Stairs

If you have a straight staircase, you might opt for the Stannah 600 heavy duty stairlift. This stairlift has a weight capacity of 25 stone. Its super slim design means it will accommodate most straight staircases with room to spare.

The design of the Stannah means it sits well back on the rail, which leaves plenty of leg room. So even if you’re very tall, this stairlift will usually be a great solution.

Which Is The Best Heavy Weight Stairlift – Curved Stairs – Heavier Weight

The Stannh 260 for curved stairs is a great solution too, however it has a lower weight limit of 19 stone. So if you’re over this weight limit we often suggest the Bruno heavy weight stairlift which has a weight limit of 30 stone.

The Bruno stairlift is much bulkier though and this can limit installation in some circumstances; especially if space is a limiting factor.

Which Is The Best Heavy Weight Stairlift – Most Agile – Up To 25 Stone

If you’re above the 19 stone limit of a Stannh 260 and the Bruno is too large for your stairs, we would generally go to another stairlift model – the Platinum Ultimate.

The Platinum has a weight limit of 25 stone, slightly less than the Bruno. However it is more agile than the Bruno. With its single rail and pivot mechanism, it is more able to be fitted to narrower stairs than the Bruno.

Summary

So there are four stairlifts for heavy weight users and here’s a quick recap.

For straight stairs, the Stannah 600 (heavy weight model) is a great go-to stairlift for a heavy weight user. Its weight limit is 25 stone and it has superb build quality and a powerful motor. It sits well back on the rail, giving the maximum amount of leg room, even on very narrow staircases.

If you have a curved staircase, the Stannah also have the 260 for curved stairs. However this model only caters for a weight capacity of up to 19 stone. So if you need a heavier model this one isn’t the choice.

The heavier weight model the Bruno has a weight capacity of 30 stone. But this model is much bulkier than most, with a heavy weight rail also. It faces outwards which can cause issues on very narrow stairs.

Finally we have the Platinum which is a great alternative if you have a tricky staircase. This model has a weight limit of 25 stone and a single rail. It also can pivot for extra leg room and for ease of entry and exit. The Platinum is more agile than the Bruno, so if you need a more adaptable stairlift for a difficult staircase, or one with more obstacles, this might be the best choice.
